Job Description

The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in the early childhood classroom, assisting the Head Teacher in the planning and implementation of a quality educational curriculum which aims to reflect the goals and values of the program. The Assistant Teacher is assigned by the Director to work under the Head Teacher in the teaching team and receives direct supervision from the Head Teacher.

The ideal applicant should be excited about working with children 2-5 years old and does not need formal early-childhood education experience. Applicants should be team players and demonstrate flexibility, energy, patience, a sense of humor, initiative, spontaneity, and enthusiasm. Experience working with young children in formal or informal settings is desired.

Responsibilities Include:

Classroom and Curriculum:

· Contribute ideas and suggestions for curriculum planning to the Head Teacher and Early Childcare Center (ECC) Director.

· Provide care, protection and behavior management for the children, taking cues from the Director and Head Teacher.

· Bring knowledge, or the willingness to learn, about Jewish holidays, culture and values to joyously teach Judaism to young children and their families.

· Maintain continuing dialogue with the Head Teacher regarding the development and growth of the children and overall functioning of the room.

· Assume responsibility for helping to maintain equipment, materials and supplies used by the group, and the cleaning up and putting away of the materials.

· Attend additional professional development opportunities offered in-person or via online platforms in order to further develop educational experience. OCFS mandates a minimum of 15 hours professional development training each year.

Hygiene, Health and Safety:

· Change a child who has had an accident (bladder, vomit, bowel movement etc.)

· Help develop and maintain adequate routines related to the health and safety of the children.

· Properly supervise children on the playground. Teachers should spread out in order to provide maximum supervision of all children.

· All accidents must be reported to the parent on the day they occur. Depending on the nature of the incident, parent must be notified either by phone or in writing. An Incident Report must be completed and signed by parent or caregiver. A copy of this report must be submitted to the ECC office.

Logistical responsibilities

· Help with preparation and set up of materials and activities for the day. Arrive at least 20 minutes before the start of program in order to have time set up for the day, review plans with the Head Teacher, and be ready to greet the children.

· Remain in the classroom until all children have been picked up or transitioned to After School or Late Care programs. The classroom should be left neat and organized so that everything can be properly cleaned by our maintenance staff for the following day.

Family and Community Engagement:

· Attend Parent Orientation, Parent-Teacher conferences, and all ECC staff meetings as scheduled. · Attendance at other school-wide events throughout the year. Compensation and Hours:

· Schools have half-day and full-day options available.
